ClearVision is a UK postal lending library of mainstream children's books with added braille. Our books all have braille, print and pictures, making them suitable for visually-impaired and sighted children and adults to share. There are over 12,000 books in the collection, including tactile board books, simple stories for young children and stimulating books for newly fluent readers. We have fiction and non-fiction in grade 1 and grade 2 braille - everything a young reader could want from Spot the Dog to Tony Ross and Dick King-Smith.

We braille a hundred new ClearVision books a month to make sure the collection is right up-to-date. Children learn to love books through shared reading; with ClearVision books visually-impaired children and adults can join in the fun!

BBC Radio 4 Appeal

Gervais and BradleyAt the end of July 2006 one of Britain's most popular writers and performers made a Radio 4 Appeal on behalf of ClearVision children's braille library - with the help of a young braille reader. Gervase Phinn is best known for his four autobiographical novels set in the Yorkshire dales, The Other Side of the Dale, Over Hill and Dale, Head Over Heels in the Dales and Up and Down in the Dales.

The appeal raised £14,000 for ClearVision and occasional donations are still coming in.

We are very grateful to the BBC for giving us this opportunity and to Gervase Phinn for giving up his time to present the appeal. For information on donating to ClearVision see: Financial Support for our Work.
